On April 22, 2025, our father and husband Vincent Horn left this world surrounded by his family. He was born an only child in Long Island City NY on August 24, 1929, to Henry and Helen (Bulanowski) Horn.
Growing up in New York, he attended St. Joseph’s Catholic school in Astoria, NY and at a young age decided school was not for him. Vince was an adventurous young man who went to Florida, worked in a marina, and then came out West and ended up in Washington.
He ended up working at various logging camps. Camp Baker by Mount St Helens and Schaffer's Olympic camp where he learned to drive heavy equipment. When he returned to New York, he ended up enlisting in the Army, then was sent to Korea where he was awarded the purple heart and a bronze star.
On returning to Washington, he worked out in the woods for various logging companies, on March 22nd, 1958, he married the love of his life Virginia “Ginger” Dubich and remained together for 67 years in Aberdeen while raising two children.
Vince is survived by his wife Ginger, son Martin (Leanne) of Tacoma WA; daughter Rita Horn; and nephew, Jim Koon, of Port Angeles, WA. He will be remembered as a very humble man with a great sense of humor. Every Thanksgiving (no matter how many times we heard it) he would ask family and guests “Did I ever tell you that I marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade in nineteen aught and forty-five? I held the man on the flying trapeze balloon.” Vince was cremated and requested some of his ashes be spread by Schaffer's Olympic camp at a later date.
There will be a celebration of life held in August at the family home. The family would like to thank all the hospice nurses from Harbor’s Home Health and Hospice for their unwavering compassion and care. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made at https://www.myhhhh.org/donate.
Please visit www.fernhillfuneral.com to share stories of Vincent and your notes of condolence for the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, WA.
