Steven Allen Anderson, better known as “Flounder”, a lifelong resident of Wishkah Valley, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 17, 2026 at the age of 57. Steve was born in Aberdeen, WA on March 5, 1969 to Patricia and Stanley Anderson. He spent his years growing up in the Wishkah Valley with his cousins and friends, riding dirt bikes, hunting with his dad and 4-wheeling. He loved spending time with the Thompson, Allen and Ancich families throughout his life.
Steve graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1987. He went to work for Cecil Holmes Construction shortly after high school and worked there for many years. He then went to work for Doug Schermer Construction as a heavy equipment operator until the time of his passing.
He married Gayle Graham in 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada and they made their home in the Wishkah Valley. They welcomed their daughter Erin in 1995 and their second daughter, Ryan in 1998. His daughters were the light of his life, he was a devoted father and was so proud of them, they were his most prized possessions.
Steve was always the prankster, his sense of humor was present all of the time. He enjoyed chasing the girls with a raw turkey neck every Thanksgiving and listening to them scream. He loved family time, spending hours talking and laughing. Steve loved cats and dogs, especially his beloved weenie dogs. He idolized John Wayne and shook his hand when Wayne came to Aberdeen in the summer of 1973. Steve proudly wore his leather vest, cowboy hat, six guns and chaps - attire he often slept in (as a child). He had an amazing imagination and could tell a story about anything. As a child, he believed he could grow a garden of hamburgers and french fries and spent many hours tending the garden. He was an avid reader, especially every word in the newspaper. He remembered everything. He slayed at trivia, we often called him the Cliff Claven of facts. Steve loved sprint car racing and attending the Grays Harbor Raceway. He looked forward to his annual trip to Skagit Speedway every year. He was a lover of any Western movie or TV show, The Young and the Restless, Hallmark Christmas movies and The History Channel. He loved classic rock and attended many concerts with his sister during his teen years and met Ozzy before one of the shows. One of his passions was teaching Hunter’s Education with special friends Phil and Colleen Hull.
He is survived by his wife Gayle, daughter Erin (Patrick) Hoeper, daughter Ryan (Ramiro) Gutierrez and was looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild, Autumn Hoeper, in August. He is also survived by his Mom, Patricia Anderson, sister Julie (Leslie Tikka) Anderson, in-laws Gordon and Bernadine Graham, brother-in-law Greg (Jennifer) Graham, niece Ronni Graham, and cousin-brother Josh Berry. He had many special friends that he thought of as brothers Tracey Thompson, Jim Ancich, Darrin Raines, Mark Maynard, and his family at Schermer Construction. He was preceded in death by his Father, Stanley Anderson, grandparents Stanley and Vera Anderson, grandparents Dutch and Velma Allen, and his life long friend, Brad Holmes.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Hoquiam Elks on Saturday, May 2nd from 1-5pm. There will be time to share memories about Steve. In lieu of flowers, you can make donations to the Wishkah Valley Fire Department District #10 or PAWS of Grays Harbor.
