Shane was born on June 25, 1969, in Colfax, Washington to Bob and Lou Ann (Mitchell) Golphenee. He passed October 7, 2026, in Raymond. Shane’s father worked as a teacher, principal and superintendent with various schools, allowing the family to live in several places throughout Washington. The family later moved to Rainier, Washington, where Shane graduated from Rainier High School in 1988. After high school, Shane joined the United States Coast Guard, serving four years in Kodiak, Alaska and soon transferred to Cape Cod Massachusetts. During this time, he met Jolie Gram, who was also enlisted. The two eventually married and welcomed two beautiful children, their daughter, Alexis, and their son, Shane. The family spent time living in Raymond before Shane and Jolie later divorced.

Shane began his career as a locksmith with Safe and Lock Company and later worked at the Capitol building in Olympia. In 2000, he settled on the Harbor where he continued his career as a locksmith at Stafford Creek Correctional Center for 14 years. In 2022, Shane medically retired and returned to Raymond, where he made his home.

Shane was a proud member of the Montesano and Raymond Eagles, the 40 et 8, and the VFW. He had a love for music, motorcycles, and simply having a good time. Whether playing pool with friends or enjoying a night of karaoke, Shane knew how to make the most of every moment. He was a member of a pool league for many years and was always looking forward to improving his karaoke skills for the next round. Known for his funny, quirky personality and his familiar saying, “Cool as a cucumber.” Shane had a natural ability to connect with people. He loved being social and could get along with just about anyone he met. He was also a strong supporter of small businesses and local families, always willing to show his support, even when a particular product wasn’t necessarily his favorite. Shane had a special appreciation for tattoos and occasionally even treated others to their very first tattoo. His generous spirit, big heart, and willingness to make others smile were just a few of the qualities that made him so memorable. Shane will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his humor, his love of music and motorcycles, and the genuine kindness he showed to those around him. His quirky spirit, generous heart, and ability to bring people together will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Shane is preceded in death by his father, Bobby Golphenee, and his sister, Lea Ann Schutz.

Shane "Shurley" is lovingly remembered by his children: daughter, Alexis Golphenee, of Elma, Washington; son, Shane Golphenee, of Hoquiam, Washington; his mother, Lou Ann Golphenee, of Spokane, Washington; brothers: Robert “Bob” (JoAnn) Golphenee, of the Dallesport, Washington, and Brian (Laura) Golphenee, of Kettle Falls, Washington; and 4 beloved grandsons: Kohen, Weslin, Rylan, and Copelen.
