Michael Zawislak Jr.

Michael Zawislak, Jr. 92, lifetime Aberdeen resident and avid outdoorsman, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen, Washington.

Mike, or Ike as he was called by family, was born on February 21, 1934 in Aberdeen to Michael and Dorothy (Lentz) Zawislak, Sr. He attended McDermoth Elementary, Miller Jr. High School, and graduated from Weatherwax High School. He also attended Grays Harbor College. He served two years in the army where he was stationed in Korea for clean up after the war.

Mike married Phyllis Jane Dimler on September 10, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen.

After working for Bigelow Chevrolet for several years and then the City of Aberdeen, Michael spent the remainder of his working career in the woods. He drove log truck for Brunstad Logging and operated heavy equipment for Tikka Construction and Schermer Construction. He retired from Schermer Construction in 1996. Mike took great pride in the logging roads he built.

Mike was happiest when he was sharing his hobbies with his family and friends. His favorite hobbies took place in “God’s Country”, as he called it. He was a tireless fisherman and hunter, and loved to camp, clam dig, and pick berries. He planted and tended a vegetable garden each year, and was proud to share his vegetables with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching sporting events either televised or in person, especially the Seahawks, Mariners, and Gonzaga Bulldogs. And anytime there was a family gathering, you could find him in a game of Pinochle with his sons-in-law. His most treasured times were those spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was so proud of each and every one of them.

Michael is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Zawislak of Aberdeen, WA; Three daughters: Anita (Andrew) Seaman of South Bend, Michelle (Richard) Stallo of Cosmopolis, and Julie (Tyram) McKay of Cosmopolis; two sisters: Jane (Harold) Brunstad of Montesano and Dorothy ( Dave) Godfrey of Kirkland: eleven grandchildren: Carli and PJ Bains, Connor and Niyah McKay, Emily and Joey Singharath, Richelle Stallo, Brady McKay and Lauren Lenss, Kaylan Fretheim and Jacob Fridlund: six great-grandchildren: Camden McKay, Rylee McKay, Magnus Bains, Willow McKay, Toby Fridlund, and Malakai Fridlund: and special family members: Steve and Cheryl Erickson, Kirstin Erickson, Inga and Austin Crain, Kaleeka McCartney and Elsa McCartney. Michael was preceded in death by a sister JoAnn Shaffner.

There will be a time of visitation and viewing on Thursday, August 27th, 2026 from 9 am to noon at Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, WA. The service will be held at 1 PM that same day in Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside with military honors will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery. A celebration of his life will then be held at the Aberdeen Elks Lodge.
