Jon David Barchenger, 80, Aberdeen resident and former software engineer for Microsoft, died Friday, July 4, 2025, at his home in Aberdeen.
Jon was born on June 11, 1945 in Denver, CO to Victor John and Peggy Ruth (Wence) Barchenger. He went to college in Grand Junction, CO and received his Associate's degree and then attended Mesa College.
He moved from the plains of Denver to the mountains. He then moved to Kent, WA and then several suburbs of Seattle until coming to Ocean Shores for 3 years. The last 3 years have been in Central Park, WA. He worked for Microsoft as a Computer Engineer, retiring in 2008. Before that he was a typewriter/computer repairman and before that he ran a security-alarm company. He was an EMT and volunteer firefighter for 12 years. He was also a Dryland Wheat farmer in Colorado.
On June 12, 1983, Jon married Theresa Ann Baca in Granby, CO. She resides at the family home. Jon had 3 daughters from a previous marriage. Jon was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and previously St. Jerome’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of Microsoft Alumni.
Jon loved boating, sailing to San Juan and the BC Gulf islands, crabbing, loved to cook, going to the ocean (That’s why the move to Ocean Shores), pickleball, camping, kayaking and working on computers or anything technological. He was a jack of all trades, fixed anything and everything, creative and could make anything. He loved to care for his wife, Theresa and loved being with his family above all else.
Jon is survived by his wife of 42 years, Theresa Barchenger of Central Park, WA; two daughters: Anna Schmitz of Kit Carson, CO and Debi Phelps of Safford, AZ; three step-sons: Tim of Seattle, WA, Dan of Renton, WA and Brian of Central Park, WA; a brother, George (Doris) Barchenger of Grand Junction, CO; three brothers-in-law: Steve, Doug and Jeff and a sister-in-law, Debbie; 10 grandchildren: Ken, Paige, Mikayla, Steven, Bret, Ben Becky, Alissa, Ryah and Atticus; 13 great-Grandchildren. Jon was preceded in death by a daughter Vicki Villa and a brother-in-law Bob Wirkus.
There will be a Memorial for Jon at St. John’s Catholic Church in Montesano on Wednesday, July 16th at 11:00 am. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, WA. Jon’s final resting place will be Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen, WA.
